Scar Revision
Poor healing can lead to scars that are obvious, unsightly, and disfiguring. Scar revision surgery can reduce the appearance of scars and help make them less conspicuous. Scar revision can also help minimize scar tissue and allow it to blend in with the surrounding skin tone and texture.
The appearance of scars that are less than a year old may improve with a topical treatment regimen and massage. Once a scar has matured, its appearance may improve with non-invasive treatments such as micro-needling, lasers, or steroid injection. In more severe cases, your surgeon could recommend surgical scar revision.
Benefits of Scar Revision
Scar Revision Candidates
At Pinnacle Plastic Surgery, we can perform scar revision on people of any age. It could be a good option for you if you have a scar that affects your self-confidence, are physically healthy, have realistic goals for the surgery, and do not have acne or other skin diseases in the treatment area.
Scar Revision FAQs
Scar Revision is a very tailored procedure and will look different for every candidate. It can include removing the prior scar and reclosing and/or rearranging the skin, fat transfer from other parts of the body to improve the contour, and localized radiation treatments for keloid scarring. The type, age, and symptoms of the scar you have will determine the appropriate techniques your surgeon will recommend.
Various treatment options are based on the type and degree of scarring and can include: topical treatments, minimally invasive procedures, or surgical revisions.
The initial healing stage of a surgical scar revision can include localized discoloration, swelling, or discomfort. The healing process will continue for several weeks. As the scar heals, it will slowly clarify and fade.
The results of scar revision are long-lasting. The final results will take several months to become apparent, and in some cases, it may take up to a year for the scar to mature entirely.
Depending on your specific situation, you may have to come in for additional treatment. When fillers are used to even out the appearance of scars, they may require follow-up readministering.
